As an IT expert dealing with computers and the internet all the time I am very concerned, as I feel local parents will be, to hear the revelations made by Channel 4’s Sexperience programmes this week.

They tell us that the average teenager watches 90 minutes of pornography per week, largely on the internet, and that 60 per cent of kids believe that pornography has a direct impact on their sexual activity.

This is shocking enough but it seems that even worse, the average age of their first experience of pornography is 11 years.

BT is the largest provider of broadband in the country but their MD clearly stated when interviewed in the programme that responsibility for protecting children lies with the parents.

I am sure parents will be pleased to know that there is appropriate software available to them to protect their children and limit what they can view on the internet.

We can provide software that is used in more than 10,000 schools in the UK alone, as well as worldwide. This offers extremely good protection levels and is available for the modest cost of £24 a year for up to three computers.

It is easy to install and use and gives parents reliable control of what their children can access – a worthwhile safeguard in a challenging world.
