Annette and Harold Willis of Maple Grove, Trowbidge, took along the Wiltshire Times when they visited the Great Wall of China on Red Nose day.
They were in China visiting friends in Beijing.
Mrs Willis, who is disabled, managed to get on to the wall’s lower slopes, while her husband trudged up 822 steep steps to the first tower.
They left their Wiltshire Times with a grateful Chinese tourist guide who wanted to use it to brush up her English for her next visitors.
