Now we know more about how the new Wiltshire Council will work, I think that most people will be pleased we have just the one.
The county map showing the 18 Area Boards reminds me of the areas covered by the old borough, urban and district councils which we had prior to 1974. These boards should once again provide us with real local government.
Was it not a big mistake to create the four district councils in the first place? The towns and villages in them often had no common interests or historical connections.
The Conservatives at County Hall are to be congratulated in pursuing the case for a Unitary Authority despite harsh and often unfounded criticism.
