A LIVE First World War grenade was blown up by the Army after it was discovered near Warminster on Sunday.
The Explosives Ordinance Disposal unit were called in on Monday morning to carry out a controlled explosion after the grenade was found in a field off Deverill Road by a senior Army officer.
Inspector Dave Minty of Warminster Police said: “It was safer to blow it up as they didn’t know what had happened to it; you can’t take the risk.
“With all unexploded ordinance we would ask people to contact police as soon as possible. They really should not be approached.”
