A critically acclaimed band who met while at school in Bradford on Avon are returning to one of the pubs which gave them their break to promote their latest album.
Blackbud, made up of Joe Taylor, 23, (guitar and vocals), Adam Newton, 22, (bass) and Sam Nadel, 23, (drums), signed a record deal with Independiente Records, whose roster includes Travis and Embrace, after completing their A-Levels at St Laurence School four years ago.
Their debut album, From The Sky, was released the following year as the band embarked on a European and American tour, featuring on Radio One’s Zane Lowe show and also playing at Glastonbury.
After a three-year hiatus, the band have returned to their hometown to play a free one-off gig at the Rising Sun in Winsley Road on April 10, to promote their new self-titled album.
Drummer Sam Nadel said: “We just wanted to keep it as low key as possible - we didn’t want the pressure of a big London gig to make our return.
“The West Country is where we learned to play together, and we played the Rising Sun when we were just starting out.
“This is the first time we’ve played these songs live, so it’s really exciting.”
The threesome worked with Arctic Monkeys and Zutons producer Mike Crossey on their new album, which was recorded in London.
Sam added: “A big part of the album was who we worked with to produce it. He had heard our single and said he liked it so we hired out a cottage in the middle of nowhere near Cheltenham and he came along to one of the sessions to work with us.
“It normally takes a long time to record an album, but once we got started the recording process was really quick.”
Support on the night will come from Westbury-based folk act Leander Morales and local favourites The Rusticles, who will share Blackbud’s bass player for the night.
