New uniforms for library staff in Wiltshire will not be ready in time for the historic changeover to a unitary authority tomorrow.
It was revealed last month that the new Wiltshire Council will spend £35,000 on uniforms for its 300 employees at libraries and heritage centres.
But today it transpires the uniforms won't be ready in time for the official launch of the super council tomorrow.
Wiltshire County Council spokesman Allan Clarke said: "Because we wanted to make sure that every member of staff had their say we have gone through a whole consultation of all staff affected by this.
"They then have to be fitted with their uniform.
"The reason they are not ready for the first day is because we wanted to be sure that staff get their choice of what uniform they are getting."
The uniforms are likely to take more than a month to be ready for all staff.
Wiltshire County Council previously said the uniform was being introduced so library staff were more "clearly identifiable".
