Chippenham rounded off the season with a frustrating draw but as champions of the Avon League.
The game couldn’t have got off to a brighter start for the home side with the ball finding the back of the net in under a minute following what was probably Chippenham’s best team goal of the season.
From the push back the ball transferred through the Bean, Stonham and Ward who fed Fisher up the left hand side, he beat a man and laid the ball off to Cameron Main who used his pace to create some space.
His accurate pass into the D found Alex Thomas unmarked and he finished first time into the bottom corner to the delight of his team mates and spectators.
Chippenham continued to press forward looking for further goals but the final pass or shot was not as concise as the initial build-up play. Wilts came back into game but with Sampson, Stonham and Bean controlling the backline their attacks came to nothing.
Chippenham’s game became sloppy and they gave up possession far too easily on several occasions the last resulting in a goal for the visitors when a shot came back off the post for an unmarked forward to score into an empty net.
At half time the score remained at 1-1.
Chippenham came out firing in the second half but were again frustrated when Luke Morris saw his shot come back off the post in the early exchanges.
With James Hamilton having more luck down Chippenham’s right more chances came and went for Knight and Main.
Chippenham were dominating possession and were again creating the best chances to score, this time Alex Thomas did all the hard work only to be tackled by the visiting ‘keeper with the goal in his sights.
Chippenham did not give up but it look like that would have to settle for the draw when Morris saw his clever reverse stick chip come back off the crossbar and then the rebound was struck wide by Mark Knight.
Chippenham kept battling for that illusive goal until the final whistle but took the point and enjoyed the celebrations of what was a very successful season.
