A TV producer from a village near Melksham will be running the London Marathon later this month in memory of her mother, who suffered from crippling arthritis.
Dale Templar, 50, of Shaw Hill, Shaw, has been training since Christmas for the 26.2 mile run, which she will complete to raise money for Arthritis Care.
The mother-of-one said her mother, Sally Rogers (need to check spelling), had been a very well known BBC broadcaster, actress, singer and dancer in the 1950s but had developed arthritis when Mrs Templar was only three years old.
Mrs Templar, who works for the BBC and is working on a series called Human Planet, said: “She was bed ridden within a year after developing arthritis and she was only 41.
“So the thing for me is that, as my mum was like that, fitness for me is hugely important in my life. I started running about 11 years ago, just after the birth of my daughter Mimi.”
Mrs Templar said her job takes her all over the world but she tries to keep up her running regime wherever she is.
She has run with the likes of TV presenter Dermot O’Leary and said places she has kept up her hobby include dodging landmines in Angola, running in the bush in South Africa and even up a volcano in Rwanda.
She said she has been building up her running schedule over the past few months and adding extra time each week, while running through places like Bradford on Avon.
One of her most recent three hour runs in training for the marathon was on Mother’s Day and her own mother, who died three years ago, was very much on her mind.
She said: “It was Mother’s Day and the sun was shining and the sky was blue and it just really reminded me of mum as she had died on a Sunday and it had also been a sunny day that day too.”
Mrs Templar is aiming to raise £1,500 for Arthritis Care and anyone who wants to sponsor her for the race on April 26 can visit www.justgiving.com/daletemplar
