PREMIER DIVISON: Potterne FC sit proudly on top Robson Taylor, Chippenham League Premier division after they defeated FC Colerne 8-1 while Dog & Fox Ashley who they had shared the number one spot with were unable to raise a team for their game with Holt.
Potterne travelled to Colerne looking for their second win over the villagers in a matter of weeks. With Potterne also looking to stay top and with how tight the league is looking to improve there goal difference.
The game started at a slow pace with Colerne starting well in midfield pressing in numbers wherever the ball was but without really causing Potterne any trouble in defence.
Potterne slowly started to find thier feet and get a hold of the game and this resulted in Potterne breaking the deadlock in the 22nd minute after a smart pass from Ben House found Myles Hickton in the box, Hickton turned his marker only to be brought down and Jamie Bayes converted the penalty accordingly.
Potterne made it 2-0 on 30 minutes when a weak James Campbell shot from the edge of the box somehow found its way into the net.
After this Potterne seem to struggle with the famous Colerne slope and with how well the home side were working. After a stern talking to at half time Potterne went out looking to increase their goal tally and put the game to bed as soon as possible and within five minutes of the restart Ben House jinked his way into the box and from a tight angle found the target although his shot did take a massive deflection.
The game was over on 52 minutes when the ball pin-balled around the Colerne box it fell to the feet of Hickton who placed it into the bottom corner for 4-0. Colerne scored what turned out to be a consolation on 58 minutes when they had a rare attack and forced a corner, the corner was met by Steve Tarren who volleyed home at the back post.
Potterne added there fifth on 60 minutes when Adam Heath picked up a loose ball on the edge of the box and curled it in the bottom corner.
They had to wait until the 85th minute before they scored again James Campbell set up Julian Alexander to head home at the near post for number six, Adam Heath fired home from 16 yards for his second of the game and Potterne’s seventh.
The final goal of the game came on 89 minutes, Heath floated a cross in and Campbell stole in at the back post to head home past the keeper. Potterne know that they will have harder games ahead that will test their title credentials but for the time being they are happy to be top of the pile.
style="font-weight: bold"> Biddestone Social 3, Semington Rovers 2
Both Biddestone Social and their guests at Yatton Road, Semington Rovers were struggling for a side and played with the bare 11 and having led 2-1 for a very long time Semington were left shell-shocked as two late goals earned Biddestone a 3-2 victory.
Biddestone took the lead on five minutes when Shahram Hemarti turned in a Mike Few cross from eight yards. Semington equalised in the 36th minute when Ed Drury who scored in the right goal last weekend diverted a Andy Harrison cross beyond his own keeper to make it 1-1.
Semington took the lead early in the second period through Richard Allum who got on the end of a Harrison corner to make it 2-1 to the visitors. Semington who had outplayed their hosts for much of the contest were pegged back two minutes from time when Dan Lardner’s 18 yarder flew past stand-in keeper Allan Clarke to level matters.
With time running out Biddestone won a corner and Jamie Lyon’s delivery was flicked on by Rob Pocock to Jake Jefferies to knock over the line for Biddy’s winner.
Box Rovers 3, The Ship FC 3
Stuart Beeho’s Box Rovers played the whole of their game at home to The Ship with only 10 players did really well to claim a point from a game that they looked to be losing with just 10 minutes remaining as they hit back to seal a 3-3 draw.
Tom Smith scored from the penalty spot after Scott Cunningham had handled in the area to put Rovers ahead.
The teams went in at the break tied at one apiece after Toby Dawson restored parity. Rovers regained the lead though Jamie Bowler, but second half substitute Tom McKinder made a great impact within seconds of coming on as his half volley made it two each.
A second from McKinder gave Ship the lead for the first time in the game and the youngster should have increased the lead even further but missed out on a hat trick when he shot wide.
Rovers never gave up and with 10 minutes remaining Chris Jones rolled back the years when 23 years after scoring his first ever goal on the Box Rec he hit the target to earn the hosts a share of the spoils. The Ship had chances to win the game with manager Lee Hayward going close twice and they thought they had won it earlier but with Jake Hiscocks shot going in it deflected off Jamie Dennison who was in an offside position.
Dog & Fox Ashley p, Holt p
Holiday’s, injuries and other commitments forced Dog & Fox Ashley who were joint leaders prior to Sunday’s round of fixtures to postpone their scheduled match with Holt.
Miller Sports 0, Winsley 2
Despite putting in a fantastic battling performance against Winsley, Miller Sports 2-0 defeat has condemned them to relegation to division one.
Chris Foley volleyed Winsley ahead in the first half and Miller’s fate was sealed near the end when Michael Towler followed up a Mike Little shot to tap home his first ever goal for the club.
