A 45-year-old man was taken to the Royal United Hospital Bath by the Wiltshire Air Ambulance after he had a heart attack on the A361 at Hilperton this afternoon.
Great Western Ambulance Service received the 999 call just after midday today and dispatched a rapid response vehicle, a double manned ambulance and the helicopter to the scene.
On arrival the ambulance crew did an electrocardiogram on the patient which was transmitted to the RUH for confirmation that it was appropriate to give him a clot-busting drug. The RUH confirmed that the patient had suffered a heart attack and that the ambulance crew should give him the drug.
This was done by the ambulance crew at the scene and he was then flown to the RUH for further treatment.
