Born: March 18, 12.55am Weight: 8lb 4.5oz Parents: Dean and Tracey Jeffery, of Warwick Crescent, Melksham.
DEAN Jeffery is becoming an expert in delivering babies. He helped wife Tracey give birth to Jack in the early hours of March 18, and a few years ago almost delivered his daughter Ella, before paramedics arrived.
Jack’s birth was not plain sailing, because he was only breathing tentatively after he was born.
Mr Jeffery said his wife came to bed that evening at about midnight and said she thought the baby would arrive that night, so he called the midwives and took their other three children to his sister-in-law’s house. By the time he got back at 12.35am, Mrs Jeffery was already well through her labour.
“It was the most beautiful time ever because it’s something personal to us, my wife and child, but we were also distraught because we didn’t want to lose him,” he said.
“I wrapped him in a towel and started rubbing his chest to try and get him to breathe.
“I tried banging on the wall because our next door neighbour is a nurse and I was just about to go round there when the midwives arrived.”
They put an oxygen mask on Jack and he was soon breathing properly.
The couple have three other children, 11-year-old Charlotte, Ella, now eight, and Kaitlin, five.
Mr Jeffrey added: “It’s the icing on the cake. I’ve got three girls and now my little boy.”
