A promising songstress, Irish dancers and topless waiters helped raise money for a cancer charity at a ladies night and fashion show held in Melksham Assembly Hall on Friday.

Organiser Wayne Palmer, 37, was behind the event called Pink for a Reason, which was packed full of performers and surprises for the 202 ticket holders.

Mr Palmer, of Trowbridge, said it was the third such event he had organised in aid of breast cancer charities after the illness had affected members of his family.

He said: “When I did my first event, my aunt had just been given the all clear from cancer two days before the show.

“At the last one I did two years ago, I raised £1,500 and I am hoping to raise even more this time.”

Melksham opera singer Rhiannon Lambert, three times Irish dance champion Andrew Chaplin and dancers from the Lindsay Howard Academy of Dance in Bowerhill also featured at the event.

Clothes for the fashion show were donated by High Street stores including Dorothy Perkins in Trowbridge and Peacocks in Melksham.

The event was sponsored by The Consortium in Hammond Way, Trowbridge and anyone who wants to donate money can visit www.justgiving.com/pinkforareason and all money will go to the Breast Cancer Campaign.
