A MASSIVE project is under way to replace more than 600 signs as five councils prepare to merge into one next week.
A new logo, created for the new Wiltshire Council, will be featured on signs across the county, which will cost an average of £200 each.
A total of £250,000 has been set aside to pay for changes to signs, uniforms and graphics.
Laurie Bell, service director for policy, research and communications at Wiltshire County Council, said: “It is an enormous project and we have been working closely with suppliers.
“There are 627 main signs that have to be changed for April 1 on buildings that are used by members of the public, customer centres.
“But there are thousands more that will be changed after April 1.”
She said the overall cost of changing the logo was £250,000, but this included everything from uniforms to stationary, as well as signs for buildings.
In addition 460 vehicles, including gritters and bin lorries, will have to be rebranded. This task is being carried out at the moment in the run up to next Wednesday.
Mrs Bell said they had been working alongside 12 local suppliers, including Mirage Signs Ltd in Warminster.
Mrs Bell said suppliers have been making sure everything from graphics to the materials needed for the new signs is in place.
Although many signs have been changed on buildings including libraries in Melksham and Warminster, the district council building signs in Chippenham, Devizes and Trowbridge will be changed on Tuesday night.
