Nora and Maurice Wilkins Married: March 30, 1959, at Holy Trinity Church, Dilton Marsh A COUPLE who have lived in the same house in Dilton Marsh for 46 years will be celebrating their golden wedding anniversary there on Monday.
Nora, 69, and Maurice, 75, Wilkins met outside the old Vista cinema in Warminster Road, Westbury, in 1957, as Mrs Wilkins recalled.
She said: “I came out of the cinema and he was outside with his friend Keith.
“I remember he walked me back to my house in Dilton Marsh and he had to borrow a bike to get back to his home in Westbury again.”
The couple married two years later at Holy Trinity Church in Dilton Marsh.
After living in Westbury for four years the newlyweds moved back to Mrs Wilkins' childhood home in High Street, Dilton Marsh, where they have remained since 1963.
Mr and Mrs Wilkins, who have three children, Hazel, Patrick, and Nick, as well as five grandchildren, say they live for their family.
“We love being parents and grandparents, that’s been our life and we absolutely love it.
“We consider ourselves very lucky. 50 years has gone by like 50 weeks,” Mrs Wilkins added.
Mr Wilkins, who worked as a commercial accountant for a number of companies including Airsprung in Trowbridge during his working life, said: “I don’t have a secret for a long and happy marriage, but you do have to have patience.”
The couple, who enjoy cruises to the Mediterranean as well as walking, will be celebrating with their family on Sunday.
