Firefighters were busy answering calls from people stuck in lifts and public toilets in Bradford on Avon and Trowbridge this week.
Crews were called to the public toilets in Bradford on Avon on Saturday after two people got locked inside on separate occasions in one afternoon.
The first incident, at the toilets near St Margaret’s Hall, happened shortly after midday and the second took place at 3.20pm.
Fire crews forced the lock from the outside using a screwdriver to free the people trapped inside, the second of which was a woman who called from her mobile.
Interpublic, a contractor for West Wiltshire District Council, went out to the toilets on Sunday to check the lock system and they were closed off for the day.
A spokesman for the council said: “They couldn’t find much wrong with them but found that the handle was a bit stiff but it will be fine now.”
The toilets were reopened on Monday.
Fire crews were also called to reports of a man stuck in a lift in Wiltshire County Council’s offices in Bythesea Road on Friday at 8.25am.
A specialist lift key was used to free the trapped man after a call was made from County Hall.
The incident was dealt with in 20 minutes. The lift is due to be fixed this week.
A spokesman from Wiltshire Fire Brigade said: “In terms of toilets owned by the district council this is the first incident I have heard of.
“We do get a lot of lift shut-ins. They often have alarm buttons in them anyway but it depends on where you are.”
