New play equipment for the children of Melksham has been officially launched in the town park.
On Tuesday, youngsters enjoyed clambering up the climbing frame and playing on the swings and slide, as councillors, including Melksham mayor Richard Wiltshire, and members of the King George V Playing Fields project marked the occasion.
The £49,000 play area was funded by Melksham Town Council, West Wiltshire District Council and Viridor Credits, which is responsible for distributing funding from Viridor Waste Management, through the Landfill Communities Fund.
The project was spearheaded by the King George V Playing Fields project, of which chairman Caspar Hull said they were very proud.
He said: “It’s fantastic and we are very pleased with how it looks. Over the last few days I have been walking past during the lovely weather and there have been children all over it.
“It has been heavily subscribed.”
The specialised play equipment means children who are both disabled and able bodied can use it safely in time for the summer months.
The new play area is just one of the improvements being made to the area by the King George V Playing Field project committee, which has also secured funding for cricket nets in partnership with Beanacre Cricket Club.
