A primary school in Trowbridge has become one of the greenest schools in the county after installing two £20,000 solar panels.
Paxcroft Primary School in Ashton Street was one of 80 schools in the UK to receive a grant from the Co-operative’s Green Energy for Schools scheme, which is match funded by the Government.
Solar energy company Solarcentury installed the panels onto the school’s roof in just four days.
The panels will generate renewable energy and reduce the school’s reliance on fossil fuels.
Headteacher at the school, Liz Bannister, said: “Part of the deal was the installation of a little panel inside the school so you can see how the number of watts being generated, how many kilowatts hours have been saved, and the carbon savings in kilograms.
“This is great because the children are seeing the savings and are now conscious about their carbon footprint. For example, they will now turn off lights when they are not being used.”
