Written by a Badgers player
It was Mothers Day and those Badgers we had available gave their mums a treat by letting them watch them play.
It was another very sunny & hot day and with no subs it was always going to be a toughie against a B&West side scattered with older boys with regular Saturday hockey under their belts – unlike us!!
But we tried.
Charles Robson offered to play in goal for the second time this season as Jordan was unavailable but he had the “honour” of playing his first ever game with his dad Rich in the team – yes, we were that desperate for players this week!!
We think Rich found it tough dropping down to the Badgers from the 3rds!! The pace was too much for him.
The first half was fairly even but the Wilts goal was under more pressure than the B&W one. Charles made a couple of fine saves with Keith J sweeping up whatever he could.
The second half was a different story though. The home team had 5 subs and their freshness eventually gave B&W the upper hand converting 3 short corners during the course of the second half.
Knee and head injuries respectively to Lynton & captain John took Wilts down to 10 players during the second half and it became difficult to stop the rampaging B&W team.
Wilts had offered Ben Lemon his debut and he didn’t disappoint. He enjoyed himself thoroughly.
Jack & Rob once again played their hearts out at the back and Dale & Lynton tried several times to penetrate the home defence causing them trouble and getting a couple of short corners for their hard work.
Mark Parsons (really enjoying his Badgers games) had a tough time at the centre of the defence but it was Zak Peck with his up and down running in midfield who deservedly took Man of the Match. He had continued his great performance from last week.
So all in all, a hard game but there was little Wilts could have done against the opposition who were at the end of the day much better than us (older, bigger & wiser).
One more game to go – let’s try & finish on a high against Marlborough.
