DESPITE the sunshine, the wellies were out in force in Bradford on Avon in a bid to teach youngsters about the world around them.
10 toddlers were brought together for a welly walk at Barton Bridge on Friday where they were encouraged to examine the wildlife in the river Avon before sitting down for a picnic.
Organiser Louise Weissel, of Greenland Mills, said: “It was lovely. We went for a walk and took them down to the river to look at the creatures in the water.
“It was about learning through play. The only thing we took was pictures and the only thing we left behind was footprints.”
The event was organised by Climate Friendly Bradford on Avon and the town’s museum in Bridge Street as part of a series of events to coincide with The River Runs Through It exhibition at the museum, looking at the history of the town’s waterways.
Ms Weissel said: “It was fantastic.
“What we are trying to do in Climate Friendly is to get kids outdoors because a lot of playgroups are based inside.”
Another welly walk has been organised for April 3 at 10am.
Parents and their young children are asked to meet at the Tithe Barn off Pound Lane if they wish to join in.
