PREMIER DIVISON: Joint Robson Taylor, Chippenham League Premier division leaders Potterne travelled to Yatton Road to face Biddestone Social for the second time in a month with Potterne looking to follow up their 3-1 win and to stay top of the table for another week which they did with a 6-3 victory over a very out of sorts Biddestone side who are struggling for numbers, but take nothing away from Potterne they were worthy winners.
Potterne started the game brightest and were ahead after four minutes after Myles Hickton ran on to a long ball and forced a good save out of Steve Hale but the rebound fell straight to Adam Heath and he calmly brought the ball down and slotted past the diving Hale.
Within two minutes Potterne were two goals the good, Potterne won a free kick on the half way line and Jamie Bayes found Hickton at the back post and he headed back across goal to an unmarked Lee Sanders who side footed home.
This seemed to wake Biddestone up and they were starting to attack more and more with Gary Banks being the main danger, this paid off on 20 minutes when a long ball over the top seemed to catch Potterne out and Bayes gave a way a penalty after a coming to with Banks and Jamie Lyons drilled into the bottom corner leaving Mark Stonestreet in the Potterne goal with no chance.
Within five minutes Potterne had regained their two goal lead when a smart pass from Lee Sanders in the Potterne midfield found Ben House and he skipped past Rob Pocock in the Biddestone defence and scored from the tightest of angles leaving keeper Hale bemused.
Biddestone had a penalty appeal turned down and the first half finished with Banks being denied by Potterne’s keeper Stonestreet.
The second half started as quick as the first with Potterne creating chances on the break and this led to Potterne's fourth after a Biddestone attack the ball was cleared to Heath and he outpaced Pocock and slotted past the advancing Hale.
Potterne seemed to be in cruise control but they were caught out when Shahram Hemarti scored a second for Biddestone who sensed they might now have a way back into the game with 20 minutes remaining but with Potterne's very next attack they took their tally to five when Adam Heath completed his hat-trick wit ha great finish that saw him curl home a stunning effort.
Potterne thought that the game was wrapped up but with 10 minutes remaining they conceded again when from 40 yards out Eddie Durry hit a stunning half volley which left Stonestreet with no chance and for Drury it was only his second goal in over 150 appearances and his first in the last five seasons.
Potterne hit straight back with Julian Alexander’s pin point cross finding Joe Unsworth at the back post and he smashed the ball home from six yards out for a well taken goal.
The result leaves Potterne still top with the Dog & Fox and could possibly open up the door for Corsham Centre to sneak a fourth title in four years but both teams on show today will still believe they have a outside shout at the title.
Dog & Fox Ashley 7, Miller Sports 1
Dog & Fox Ashley stayed on 24 points with Potterne at the summit after their 7-1 win over basement side Miller Sports who are now just one more defeat away from relegation.
With manager Russell Whatley away on holiday, Steve Roddy and Steve Wickings took charge of the team and both will be happy with the outcome of the match and both will be pleased with their own performances as the both got on the score sheet.
Tom Rooney scored his second goal in as many weeks to give the Dog the lead and Wickings made it 2-0 before Nick Groves headed home for Miller. Two more goals from Wickings saw him complete a first half treble before Steve Latham got in on the act with goal number five.
Steve Roddy scored a second half double to seal the Dog’s win but for Roddy he was left kicking himself as he missed out on a three timer after he had a first half penalty saved by Miller keeper Tim Knight.
FC Colerne 1, Maud Heath Sports 3
FC Colerne’s 3-1 home defeat at the hands of Maud Heath Sports means that they after just two seasons in the top flight they will be back playing first division football next season.
Colerne made the perfect start and led 1-0 at the interval thanks to a James Godfrey goal.
Maud Heath hit back and levelled through top scorer Darren Holcombe and they took the lead when 44-year-old debutant Mike Tasker headed them in front.
A second goal from Holcombe wrapped up the victory for Maud Heath who had won the earlier match 1-0, again thanks to a Holcombe goal.
The Ship FC 2, Westbury Rangers A 9
Having gained a 2-2 draw against Westbury Rangers A when the sides met a short while ago Lee Hayward’s Ship FC had hoped for a similar outcome in he reverse fixture, but missing a few players the Ship were put to the sword by a Rangers side who ran out 9-2 victors.
Nick Mead’s opener for Rangers was cancelled out by Jake Hiscocks who beat the Rangers keeper with lob from 40 yards.
Marc Lanfear who has hit a purple patch recently regained the lead for Rangers but once again the Ship back to restore parity this time it was Lee Hayward who tied the scores. Sam Gooding fired Ranger’s back in front and this time their was no way back for the Ship as Rangers hit six more goals as Lanfear scored two more to complete his third hat trick in as many games.

Winsley 8, Semington Rovers 1
Semington Rovers suffered their heaviest loss in the league for many years and their 8-1 defeat against Winsley may in fact be the biggest defeat in the clubs history.
Mike Little who started the scoring on five minutes for Paul Ranger’s Winsley side took his tally for the season to 24 wit ha five timer.
Goalkeeper Chris Birleson scored from the penalty spot, Chris Foley scored direct from a corner and Neil Hannaford signed of before starting a lengthy suspension with goal number nine.
Semington may have only scored the one goal but Andy Harrison’s stunning left footed effort was probably the goal of the game.
Westbury Rangers 8, Holt 0 (Midweek Result)
With Holt agreeing to help out Westbury Rangers A with their fixture backlog, the match at Meadow Lane on Thursday night that came just four days after Rangers had beaten Stuart Faint’s side 4-2 was some what a one sided affair as Rangers again ran out winners as they completed a quick fire league double over their guests as they hit eight unanswered goals to leave their opponents suffering a fourth straight loss and their own success moved them up into fifth place.
Holt stand in keeper John O’Harrow who bravely accepted the goalkeeping duties after not playing there for some three months was soon under fire from Rangers and two errors from the keeper gifted the hosts a two-nil lead inside the first 30 minutes with Paul Beavers scoring the first on the night.
Rangers scored a third before the break to all but secure the points, but Holt tried to play their football which wasn’t easy against a well organised Rangers side who went in at half time as worthy 3-0 leaders.
Holt changed keepers at half time and Lee Mattravis was soon called into action but the young keeper coped well under pressure early on but could do nothing about the five second half goals.
Marc Lanfear followed up his hat trick from Sunday with another three timer, Nathan Hallett also scored three and Chris Story’s single completed the rout.
