A fine FC Chippenham performance saw them dominate against a plucky Larkhall side on a sunny Sunday morning at Stanley Park.
FC Chippenham started brightly and played some quality football.
The early exchanges saw FC Chippenham force several corners, the most notable of which saw Kieron Fitzwalter play a short ball for Matt Kirtley whose drive bounced off several Larkhall defenders before being scrambled clear.
Although mainly on the back foot, Larkhall always looked dangerous and produced several decent passing moves of their own.
Midway through the 1st half and somewhat against the run of play, Larkhall created a quick counter attack and swept the ball accross the Chippenham box to find a man over whose initial shot was superbly saved by Tadgh Feerick but the Larkhall attacker followed up well to put Larkhall into the lead.
FC Chippenham responded to this setback with great character and continued to enjoy the bulk of possession before finally, just before half time, they got their reward.
Marcus Fenton chipped a well balanced ball into the Larkhall box and Harry Vickers reacted quickest turning quickly to volley the ball into the roof of the Larkhall net.
FC Chippenham started the 2nd half determined to dominate and they did, restricting Larkhall to a few unsuccessful forays into their half.
From a Chippenham perspective, the pleasing aspect was that we kept excellent shape throughout the game and the midfield of Kieron Fitzwalter, Marcus Fenton and Sam Costain were dominant throughout, winning the ball and creating numerous moves.
Defensively, anything the midfield missed was comfortably mopped up by Sam Fieldhouse and Matt Kirtley at the back. Subs Toby Ferguson and Alex Bowers also made appearances and contributed.
The deciding goal came from a FC Chippenham corner. Harry Vickers forced a defensive error and from the resulting corner Kieron Fitzwalter delivered an excellent ball into the box which was attacked for Marcus Fenton to drive firmly home from close range.
FC Chippenham are now looking forward to their Cup semi-final next week after a thoroughly deserved win.
