As ex-locals my husband and I regularly visit Wiltshire to maintain our parents’ graves at Cherhill and Kington Langley.
Having to travel from Shropshire, we are always hungry and thirsty and decided to pre-book a table at the Red Lion at Lacock for a Sunday lunch on March 8 at 2pm.
As we arrived early in Lacock for our booking, we hoped we could have our meal earlier than booked as we were so wet and cold, the weather was dreadful by now.
We asked a lady behind the bar if we could eat earlier and she said we could, and to find a table for two – thankfully we sat down. A few moments later, a man came up to our table and started shouting at us telling us to “get out” and to come back at 2pm – this was very embarrassing in front of a very full pub. Not a very warm welcome from our home county.
We eventually found food and a warm welcome, with a table near a fire – at the Carpenters Arms.
