AN online petition calling for an increase in the number of trains to Swindon from west Wiltshire stations has been signed by more than 130 people in less than a week.

The petition, organised by the Save the Train campaign, aims to increase the number of services on the TransWilts Salisbury to Swindon route from two to six a day, after they were cut in 2006.

Campaigner and Melksham businessman Graham Ellis, of The Spa, who put the website together, is pleased with the support so far.

He said: “It is great to see that 136 people have joined the petition to increase the number of services for the TransWilts Salisbury to Swindon service.

“The times of the current service which operates from Swindon at 6.15am and 7.48pm are just not right for people who want to commute to work. The petition proposes an extra four services so that more people can use it.”

The TransWilts service calls at Warminster, Dilton Marsh, Westbury, Trowbridge, Melksham and Chippenham.
