Hundreds of people from Warminster have signed a petition calling for a crossing outside a primary school prompted by fears someone will be knocked over.

Mum Elle Pope, 34, of Giles Hollow, presented the petition of nearly 300 signatures, which she collected in just a week, to a full town council meeting at Dewey House in North Row on Monday night.

Parents hope the campaign will result in a zebra crossing being introduced in Sambourne Road, near the entrance to Sambourne Primary School.

Mrs Pope, who has a five-year-old son, Ben, at the school and a four-year-old, Tom, due to start in September, said: “They (councillors) said they would discuss it at a later date and I felt positive about it when I left.

“I think people are just desperate for the crossing to avoid something terrible happening.”

The crossing will be discussed at the town council’s transport and environment committee meeting on Monday (Mar 23) from 7pm.
