Division Two Cup
FC Courthouse v Broughton FC
FC Courthouse are ninety minutes away from taking a place in the Division Two Cup Final sponsored by E J Shanley and Son Limited after beating Broughton FC by 3-1 in the first leg of their Semi Final.
Both teams started the game at a frantic place and after ten minutes it was one apiece, Broughton scoring first through Gary Perrot and some thirty seconds later Courthouse had equalised with a Scott Askew goal.
The match then settled down with both defences coming out on top in their battles with the opponent’s strikers.
The second half started in the same vain as the first had finished with the defences holding strong.
On the hour mark Courthouse made the all important breakthrough to take the lead with a goal scored by Jason Povey and twelve minutes later they sealed the win with a second goal from Scott Askew to make the score 3-1.
Broughton then finished the match with 10 men as Julian Putt was sent off for Abusive language towards the Courthouse Club Assistant Referee with only eight minutes remaining.
St Andrews Winsley v Bromham Reserves
St Andrews Winsley progressed into the Division Two Cup Final after overturning a 2-1 deficit from the first leg, with a well-fought 2-0 win against Bromham Reserves.
The game started off at a fast and furious pace with both sides missing good chances to open the scoring.
Neither side could capitalise so it stayed 0-0 until half-time.
However, soon after the break St Andrews took the lead when Chris Tonkiss finished off an excellent move when he drove a shot inside the near post.
The game stayed at 1-0 with it looking certain to go to extra time, until Chris Tonkiss tapped in his second to put the side from Winsley into the final.
Unfortunately, the tie was finished off on a sour note when Bromham got two players sent off, one for a bad tackle and one for aggression shown towards the referee.
