DEVIZES artist Jim Condell, whose paintings featured scenes of Wiltshire, has died aged 91.
In 1968, following an industrial merger, Mr Condell found himself redundant and at the invitation of his sister he moved to Wiltshire where he joined the art therapy department at the former Roundway Hospital in Devizes. He took early retirement in 1980 to devote more time to watercolour painting.
In 1969 Mr Condell joined the Lawrence Society of Art in Devizes. He exhibited with them and with the Marlborough Artists and between 1979-89 was a regular exhibitor at the Royal West of England Academy’s annual exhibition in Bristol.
Examples of his paintings included scenes of Quakers Walk, the Thursday open air market in Devizes and the Kennet and Avon Canal.
His funeral service is due to be held today at the West Wiltshire Crematorium, Semington, at 3.15pm.
