THE Victorian swimming pool in Westbury features in a new book published by English Heritage.
Great Lengths: the historic indoor swimming pools of Britain looks at the history of indoor swimming pools in the country, and features the pool in Church Street, which is the oldest working pool nationwide.
The book, written by Dr Ian Gordon and Simon Inglis, is the latest title in the Played in Britain series, focusing on the country’s sporting heritage.
Mr Inglis, 54, said: “We felt it was time to record the best in the county and bring the public’s attention to the indoor pools that survived.
“Westbury Baths is one of the finest that survived and is among the oldest.”
Westbury Baths was built in 1888 thanks to a grant from local philanthropist William Henry Laverton and still retains it’s Victorian features.
The book, which is priced at £19.99 and features a foreword by Olympic double gold medallist swimmer Rebecca Adlington.
