Waitrose's bid to open a store in Warminster has been backed by town councillors amid rumours the planning application is likely to be recommended for refusal.

At a Warminster Town Council meeting on Monday, councillors expressed their concerns over the fact Morrisons and the Three Horseshoes Walk owner Stockland had objected to Waitrose’s application for the former Dent’s factory site in Fairfield Road.

Waitrose said the store would create 160 jobs.

However West Wiltshire District Council confirmed this week that no decision has been made on the Waitrose store and no recommendations have been made by its officers yet.

The application is due to go before the district council’s planning committee on March 26.
