A BID to open a betting shop in the former Aqualeisure store in Melksham looks set to be given the go-ahead this week.
Andrew Croft, who owns Backhouse Bet which has shops in Bradford on Avon and Warminster, saw initial plans for the outlet in Market Place refused by West Wiltshire District Council last year.
He resubmitted plans this year after working closely with the council’s planning department and heritage development officer.
There were concerns raised about the betting shop being in such a prime location.
Melksham Town Council said if the application were to go ahead they wanted conditions placed on it, including a limit on evening and weekend opening times and the installation of smoking facilities.
West Wiltshire District Council's planning committee is due to discuss the application tomorrow night.
