The 21 year old Melksham man, arrested on suspicion of murder, appeared before North Wilts Magistrates' Court this afternoon.
Police made an application for a warrant of further detention, which was granted by magistrates, extending the period of detention for this man until 3.40pm tomorrow.
Police enquiries have established that there were a number of members of the public in the vicinity of the Market Place and Spa Road, Melksham at the time of this murder, and they are appealing for those people to contact them as a matter of urgency.
Police say house to house and other enquiries will continue in the area of Melksham town centre over the next few days, and there will be a noticeable increase in police activity.
We are aware that there may be members of the local community who have information which may assist the enquiry, but who have concerns about contacting the police.
Detective Superintendent Norman McKeaveney said, “I want to reassure anyone who may be able to assist us that their information will be treated in the strictest confidence and if need be, they can contact Crimestoppers and leave anonymous information on 0800 555111.
Alternatively, witnesses are able to contact me directly on 0845 408 7000, and I would be willing to discuss their concerns with them.”
