The family of builder Adrian Cooksey have spoken of their grief at his death after an attack in Melksham.
Mr Cooksey, 50, was found unconscious with head injuries in Spa Road at 3am on Sunday.
He died at the Royal United Hospital yesterday.
Mr Cooksey, who is divorced, has three sons, Michael, Adam and Simon.
The family said: "We as a family are deeply saddened and shocked at the tragic loss of Adrian, not only as a father, but a wonderful partner, boss, step father, and friend.
"There are no words to describe how we are feeling. He will be greatly missed by all."
A 21-year-old man arrested on suspicion of murder at 5.30am yesterday remains in custody.
His period of detention has been extended by a Superintendent’s authority, and he will continue to be interviewed during today.
A police spokesman said: "We are renewing our appeal for information about this murder. Any member of the public who may have seen Adrian Cooksey during the evening, prior to his death, or anyone who witnessed the assault taking place in Spa Road, Melksham, and who has not yet spoken to the police, is asked to contact the Wiltshire Police urgently on 0845 408 7000, or if preferred, anonymous information may be left on the Crimestoppers line 0800 555111."
Yesterday his sons left floral tributes in Spa Road where the attack took place.
Adam said in a card placed with his flowers: "I love you so much words cannot describe how much pain I am in. You will be missed so much, love you."
Michael, wrote in his card: "Dad, never forget you. You were the best. You helped me so much. I love you."
Teammates at Bradford on Avon Cricket Club have also paid tribute to Mr Cooksey, 50, who died after an attack in Melksham on Saturday night.
He was described as a wonderful friend who would be sadly missed by the club.
Treasurer James Pike, 28, said: "He was an outstanding member of the community and a lovely bloke - a real father figure.
"You won't find anyone who could say a bad word about him. Obviously it's a great loss to his family, and to the cricket team."
