Councillors in Corsham are keen to restore the town’s market in a bid to boost the local economy and bring in more visitors.
Plans to revive the market were due to be discussed last night. Corsham town councillor Nicholas Keyworth said: “The original market was behind the Methuen Arms in the car park on a Tuesday but has dwindled over the years and now we only have a fishmonger. We are in the early stages of research but hopefully our findings will help us choose a location, day and time for the market as well as what type of market we are going to have.”
Councillors have been carrying out research to find out more about how to set up the market and were due to present their findings last night. Cllr Keyworth said: “A group of us went to Bradford on Avon and Chippenham and we also plan to look at Frome.”
Corsham Chamber of Commerce, who tried to revive the market several years ago, is backing the bid.
President Ian Storey said: “I think providing there is a good balance between the traders and the market then it could be a great success.”
