A well-travelled couple will be celebrating their golden wedding anniversary by sampling the taste of Turkey.
Mike, 72, and Maureen Bovey, 70, of Orchard Road, Westbury, met at a dance in Plymouth in 1957 and marrried two years later.
Mrs Bovey said: “I knew he was going because I overheard a conversation in the pub. He dropped me home and we started dating after that.”
Their first child, Julie, was born on their first wedding anniversary in 1960, and now lives in Australia, with her 13-year-old daughter Caitlin.
Son Richard was born three days after England’s 1966 World Cup final win.
Mr Bovey said: “She was determined to have him early but thankfully she didn’t and I was able to watch the cup final.”
Through Mr Bovey’s Ministry of Defence work the couple lived in Gibral-tar, Singapore, Scotland and Bradford on Avon, before retiring to West-bury in 1997.
The couple, who have three grandchildren, will celebrate their special day by enjoying a Turkish meal with Richard and his wife Caroline and two children, Elliot, 12, and Isabel, ten, in Bath tomorrow.
