Excellent links between Seend Primary School pupils and the community is one of the school’s outstanding features, say Ofsted inspectors.

The 108-pupil primary school received a glowing report following an inspection on February 11.

It achieved the second highest rating of good by Ofsted but was rated outstanding for the pupils’ behaviour and the way they make a positive contribution to the community such as through church activities and fetes.

Ofsted inspector Deborah Zachary says in the report: “Their (the pupils) moral and social development is excellent. They behave exceptionally well and they feel extremely safe and secure.

“The school achieves these things through strong leadership and through adults who show a strong care and concern for the children. The result is that the school is a very welcoming environment where pupils greatly enjoy learning.”

She said teaching is good throughout the school and standards in Year 6 national tests are above average.

To improve further she has asked that teachers record assessments in a way that ensures any relatively slower progress is identified and acted on more quickly.

Headteacher Steven Bennett said: “I am delighted to have such a positive report for the school and particularly pleased that the caring community we have here has been noted.”
