The re-opening of Corsham railway station is still a hot topic in the town.

A North Wiltshire District Council survey was sent to every household in the Corsham area to find out what the residents and businesses views were on the re-opening of long closed Corsham station.

It has been a long-term aim to re-open the station but this has, so far, proved impossible as the London-Bristol route remains busy with high-speed train services and there is not room for local commuter services.

More than 3,000 responses were returned, 530 of these completed online using the council website.

The survey asked questions such as: how often and what times do people travel by rail; how travellers get to the station and if they would use a reopened station. There were also questions about alternative transport methods and possible costs.

The leader of North Wiltshire District Council, Cllr Dick Tonge, said: “We know the question of re-opening Corsham railway station has been raised many times over the years and the response to this survey shows just how important this issue remains for people in Corsham.

"The information from the survey will now be collated and will provide important and useful feedback that will be passed to the new Wiltshire Council, for them to consider as part of any future plans regarding rail transport links and infrastructure in north Wiltshire.”
