Trowbridge celebrated its Fairtrade Town Status at the weekend with a chocolate fountain on Fore Street.
Trowbridge Fairtrade Steering Group set up the fountain, which proved popular with youngsters, and gave out free directories listing suppliers of Fairtrade products in the area.
Wiltshire county councillor Steve Oldrieve, who chairs the group, said: “It went really well. We raised the profile of Fairtrade and I think it was a worthwhile event.”
Trowbridge will officially receive its Fairtrade Town certificate at the Town Gathering at the Civic Hall on April 7, and over Easter the Fairtrade Steering Group will be hosting a Fairtrade chocolate hunt sponsored by Trowbridge Co-op.
Elsewhere, the Box Fairtrade Group organised a breakfast at Box Methodist Church on Saturday to celebrate the village’s new Fairtrade status. As a thank you to families and businesses in the village for their support, the event raised £141 for Fairtrade’s charity.
