Silky substitute Sean Seavill capped a spirited Chippenham comeback with a stunning 20-yard equaliser in the 2-2 draw at Halesowen on Saturday but said he felt he should have started the game.
The languid forward had been in impressive form recently but was dropped to the bench in favour of the returning Luke Gullick for the potentially play-off deciding clash.
However he was introduced at half-time, along with creative midfielder Kye Holly, and tormented the home defence before his long-range effort levelled the scores on 83 minutes.
“All the games I’ve played in we have won, so to come up here, in what was a big game for us, I was disappointed to be sat on the bench,” he said.
“I wasn’t given a reason so I just took it on the chin and got on with it.
“I feel like I’ve proved a point not just with the goal but my performance as a whole.
“Kye also made a difference with his quality on the ball so it was a good decision to bring us both on.”
Chippenham fell behind on 15 minutes to a well-taken goal by Jay Denny.
It then got worse for the Bluebirds when Chris Snoddy bundled over former teammate Aaron Cornwall to concede a penalty, which former Tottenham player Darren Caskey duly converted.
David Pratt gave Mings’ side hope when he pulled one back on 69 minutes before Seavill’s thunderbolt gave them a more than deserved point.
He said: “Usually I pass in those situations but I just thought ‘why not?’ Even though in the first half we didn’t play that well we still created a few chances and I think we should have won.”
Chippenham Town: Snoddy, Adams, Lamb, Williams, Casey, Martin (Holly H/T), Lye, Sercombe (Seavill H/T), Pratt. Allison, Gullick (Swallow 77). Subs not used: Halliday, Gardner.
