IMAGINE walking in beautiful wild places; imagine singing together round a glowing fire; imagine laughing, talking and friendship with other people; imagine having the time, tranquillity and space to reconnect with nature and with yourself.

Journeying is all of these things; the outer journey reflecting the inner path.

The singing of songs building bridges between one another.

Set up by Sue Glanville and Candy Verney, Journeying runs walking and singing trips around Wiltshire, to different parts of the UK and to India.

Sue spent many years working with teenagers as head of a successful religious studies department in a comprehensive school.

She has a skill and special interest in creating a safe space for people to explore the larger questions in life.

But she blends this with a feisty sense of humour and an infectious sense of fun.

She now works as a life coach and workshop leader.

Candy Verney has an inspirational ability to encourage everyone to find their singing voice.

She currently leads four successful community choirs in the Bath/Wiltshire area, called Singing in the Round, and has been featured on BBC Radio 4’s Home Truths.

She has written two song books for young children and their parents, called The Singing Day and The Singing Year, and teaches from a rich repertoire of uplifting and beautiful songs from around the world.

The two recently ran a trip to Ammerdown in Somerset, featured on a recent Traveller’s Tree programme about alternative holiday activities on BBC Radio 4.

A recent trip on October 25 took in Avebury and Alton Priors, where people spent the day singing and walking around the ancient landscape among bubbling springs, pre-Christian yew trees and ancient churches.

Some of the journeys the pair run are designed as a glorious taster day, of singing in special places. Others go over a weekend or longer.

When outside of Wiltshire on longer trips you stay in a mixture of hostels, retreat centres, tents and youth hostels.

Walking distances are between five-10 miles a day and you need only carry a day bag.

The singing is for everyone, regardless of experience and songs are learnt by ear.

A willingness to engage with the journey is all that is required.
