This year’s Christmas lights switch-on will be held on Saturday, December 6 in Fore Street.
An array of activities will commence at 10am. Musical delights will be provided throughout the day by choirs, soloists, and bell ringers.
There will be children's workshops from 11am-3pm which will involve making Christmas decorations and lanterns. There will also be games and rides for children and the chance to pet real reindeer from 10am-4pm.
A Christmas Village will sell a range of locally produced food and drinks. There will also be stalls specialising in jewellery, decorations and toys. At 6pm a lantern parade led by Santa, accompanied by toy soldiers and elves, will arrive to switch on the Christmas lights.
All children who have been on their best behaviour will receive free candy canes.
Santa, the Mayor, and the BBC Morning presenter Graham Seaman will then ensure that the lights will be switched on promptly at 6.30pm.
The excitement then continues with Santa moving into his Grotto to give out presents until 8pm.
Snow is guaranteed for the event so come dressed for the cold and bring the whole family.
