Trowbridge Museum relies on the donation of objects for its collection. Some items come from members of the public, and some are carefully tracked down in auctions and gifted to the museum by the Friends organisation.
These objects demonstrate the generosity of the museum’s donors.
The two modern silver tankards were presented to Sidney J. and Percy V. Harper for 30 years of loyal service to Ushers Brewery.
The battered pewter tankards are much older. They were used at the Sun Inn in Trowbridge and both bear the official stamp of Queen Victoria to prove they held exactly one pint and half a pint respectively. The Sun Inn was initially at 1 Fore Street but moved to Castle Street in the second half of the 18th century.
