A teenage girl has been rushed to hospital after being hit by a car on an A-road in Wiltshire.

The A342 Nursteed Road in Devizes was closed by police just after 4pm on Monday, December 2, after a crash involving a pedestrian and a car.

Two land ambulances rushed to the scene and a 14-year-old girl was taken to Salisbury District Hospital to be treated for injuries.

The road remained closed until 9pm, and traffic through Devizes which was already slow due to the ongoing closure of Northgate Street, was made worse by the Nursteed Road closure which brought parts of the town to gridlock.

Wiltshire Police has now confirmed that the 14-year-old girl's injuries, though series, are not thought to be physically life changing or life threatening.

A spokesperson for the South Western Ambulance Service said: "We were called at 16:04hrs on Monday December 2 to a road traffic collision near Devizes.

"We sent two double-crewed land ambulances to the scene. We conveyed one patient by land ambulance to Salisbury District Hospital.”

A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police added: "A 14-year-old female was taken to hospital to be treated for injuries not thought to be physically life changing or life threatening.

"The road was closed while an investigation was carried out and reopened around 9pm.
