Residents have called for parking restrictions after facing “verbal abuse” from the drivers of parked cars on a crowded street.

Locals have raised concerns about parked cars causing “persistent” obstructions and blocking visibility on Rowden Lane, Chippenham.

Complainants say the issue is at its worst near the junction with Brooklands and have called for double yellow lines to be implemented on this stretch.

A highways improvement request has been submitted by a resident who claims they have faced “verbal abuse” when raising concerns over parked cars causing “safety” issues.

The request said: “On several occasions, we have politely asked people to move their vehicles away from the corner and dropped kerb by the bridleway to which we have received verbal abuse.

“Since the implementation of the new walk and cycleways at the Rowden mile, we have noticed an increase of vehicles parking in Rowden Lane and Brooklands and we feel it is the right time to put our opinion forward to help improve road and pedestrian safety in this area.”

Chippenham town councillors will discuss whether they support parking restrictions during a planning committee meeting on Thursday, December 5.

If they do, the plan will be put to the Local Highway and Footway Improvement Group.
