This house had a celebrity TV touch when Alan Titchmarsh was inspired by its garden and is now up for sale for less than £1 million

Not only did it impress Alan, the garden won a national award and the rest of the house was designed by an award-winning architect, Studio Octopi.

Now “unique and beautifully presented” Orchard House in Calne’s heritage quarter is being sold with Yopa for £775,000.(Image: Yopa)

Yopa says: “Despite being within five minutes’ walk from the town centre, it is highly secluded, standing in its own grounds at the end of a short lane.”

The house is an eco-house, insulated with sheep’s wool, double glazed and heated under-floor by an energy-efficient heat pump.

It is wood-framed and built around a medieval boundary wall with a “stunning” open-plan design with double-height ceilings.(Image: Yopa)

Inside there is a living area “surrounded” by floor-to-ceiling windows and adorned by art with a wood-burning stove in the centre and gardens all around.

Architect, Cris Romer-Lee told Dezeen magazine: “We began to look at the house as a protective environment, a kind of hideaway within a series of courtyard spaces.”

Yopa writes: “The house is approached through a stone gateway then past a small orchard and along a sweeping driveway… to a secret front garden.”(Image: Yopa)

The house’s garden was visited by Alan Titchmarsh in an episode of Love Your Garden on ITV to get inspiration for a Swindon veteran’s garden he was redoing.

In the series, Alan surprises worthy people to do up their garden for them, and visits some of the nation's top gardens while he is at it.

The estate agent writes: “The courtyards are accessed by tall bleached oak garden doors, creating a private haven within the grounds. (Image: Yopa)

“The gardens are beautifully planted with Spring flowers, perennials and evergreen topiary which gives it structure and visual interest, even in winter.”

The garden was designed by the owner and by Christine Whatley of Sylvan Studio and won the British Association of Landscape Industries award for Design Excellence.

The judges called it “a very pleasing and successful design”.

The house, built in 2011, has three beds and three baths. The main bedroom is on the ground floor with a “spacious ensuite”. Also on this level is a library corridor while the other two bedrooms are off an upper-floor gallery.

Calne is described by the estate agent as a “Town of Discovery” and this house can be discovered from Swindon in around 30 minutes.
