A Wiltshire town's Christmas lights switch-on has been cancelled because of the flooding in the town.

Bradford on Avon Town Council have confirmed that their Christmas Lights Switch-On planned for Friday, November 29 will no longer go ahead.

This comes after the town centre was closed off to traffic due to flooding and damage caused by Storm Bert.

A spokesperson for the council said: "The lights will be turned on over the next week or so after essential safety checks on all the electrical connections. Thank you for your understanding."

The town centre is still closed today, including Market Street and St Margaret's Street. The council have urged the public to continue to avoid the flood water.
