“Do not travel today” says GWR after flooding causes chaos on both the road and rail network in Wiltshire.

In an update this morning, Great Western Railway says not to try travelling on any route due to “severe flooding”.

It advises there are cancellations on routes through Swindon with “disruption expected until the end of the day”.(Image: GWR)

Affected Wiltshire routes at the time of writing are:

  • Cancellations between Swindon and Cheltenham Spa via Gloucester expected until 12pm.
  • Cancellations between London Paddington and Swansea via Bristol Parkway and Cardiff Central until end of day.
  • Cancellations between London Paddington and Bristol Temple Meads via Swindon and Bath Spa until 12pm.

A spokesperson said: “Network Rail need to carry out examine the line to check for fallen trees, flooding and any damage that may have been caused. Until this is done, we are unable to run trains.

“We are unable to offer alternative transport at this time and cannot guarantee we will be able to get you to your destination. You are advised not to attempt to travel along this route.

They state that tickets for today will be accepted on Tuesday, November 26, including on peak services, or that refunds can be requested.
