A lane closure is in place on the M4 as debris is blown onto the road by Storm Bert.

The M4 westbound lane one is closed between junction 12 and 13 east of Swindon and Wiltshire, in Berkshire.

Traffic is reported by the AA to be "coping well".

It says: “One lane closed due to debris on road on M4 westbound from J12 A4 Bath Road (Theale) to J13 A34 (Chieveley / Newbury). Traffic is coping well.”

Earlier another M4 lane closure was in place west of Swindon near Bath and Bristol, but has now been resolved with all lanes open.

Wiltshire Police has asked that debris and trees on roads only be reported to it in an emergency after it reported received a very high number of calls.

A spokesperson for the force said: “We are currently receiving a high number of calls related to the weather such as fallen trees or debris in the road.

“As a result, our control room is extremely busy, and so we would ask people to please only call 999 in an emergency.

“To report fallen trees or branches, or any obstructions in the road, you can contact your local authority or Highways.

“Please only travel when necessary. Be careful on the roads and adjust speeds and braking distances accordingly.”
