A major road will be closed through a Wiltshire town as it celebrates its Christmas light switch-on event.
Calne Christmas Festival of Lights will see hundreds of lanterns enter the town centre on Saturday, November 30 with stalls from 1pm and the lantern procession at 3.45pm.
A warning has been issued to motorists ahead of the event as the A4 will be closed from 1pm to 6pm between the Curzon Street roundabout and the New Road/Station Road roundabout.
Calne Town Council has issued information to motorists and householders in the area ahead of the event with details on the road closures in place with exact timings provided for these.
The A4 will be closed from 1pm to 6pm between the Curzon Street roundabout and the New Road/Station Road roundabout.
The official diversion route is the A4 / A342 via Sandy Lane/ A3102 via Mile Elm to re-join the A4 at London Road.
There will also be resident-only access from the Curzon Street roundabout to Market Hill between 1pm to 3pm and from 5.30pm to 6pm.
There is to be no vehicle access from 3pm to 5.30pm to Market Hill or to Patford Street.
And there will be no access to the Church Street car park during the A4 road closure – exit only turning left towards London Road – with no exit between 4.00pm and 5.30pm.
Church Street is closed between the A4 and junction with Mill Street from noon to 7pm. The inbound diversion route is Brewers Lane/ Piggy Hill from London Road.
Cox’s Hill by the Town Hall will be closed from noon to 7pm. To access Patford Street use Curzon Street, Market Hill, Castle Street until 3pm. There will then be no exit until 5.30pm.
The procession leaves Bremhill View at approximately 3.45pm into the town centre via North Street, Wood Street, Curzon Street and The Strand.
No access from Oxford Road or Curzon Street into North Street whilst the parade is underway – please use bypass. Please follow instructions from marshals.
No buses will serve the town hall stop between 1pm and 6pm – the nearest stops are Curzon Street or Oxford Road.
Access for emergency services vehicles will be maintained.
The council has warned animal owners due to loud sounds which could scare their pets.
This is because the finale fireworks display will take place adjacent to the town hall at approximately 4.45pm.
