Plans have been lodged to reduce the speed limit on two of the busiest main roads through Wiltshire.

Wiltshire Council is running a consultation on a Traffic Regulation Order that, if implemented, would lower the speed limit on both the A342 Devizes Road and the A3102, between Sandy Lane and Bromham.

This stretch has previously been identified as a problem area, with the junction between the two A-roads one of four earmarked for further changes due to the risk of crashes.

The plans under consultation would see the 50mph speed limit on the A342, between Sandy Lane and the northern A3102 junction, reduced to 40mph.

The 60mph stretch of the major route, running past Bromham to St Ediths Marsh, would be lowered to 50mph, as would the A3102 from its northern junction with Devizes Road to Stockley Road.

This plan has been brought forward following concerns from councillors in the area.

The order said: “These proposals are being taken forward on behalf of Bromham and Rowde Parish Councils and Devizes Local Highway and Footpath Improvement Group due to concerns within the local community.

“An assessment has been undertaken in line with Wiltshire Council’s adopted policy and the proposals put forward meet the required criteria for each speed limit change.”

Residents can comment on the proposals until December 9.
