A derelict Wiltshire pub that was formerly a hotspot for crime is on the market.

The Unicorn pub on Bath Road, Melksham, has been listed for sale by Wiltshire-based estate agents Strakers for a guide price of £185,000 as a “former public house and restaurant in need of complete renovation”.

Police officers discovered a cannabis factory inside the derelict pub in March 2023 after receiving a report of a suspected burglary at the address.

Forensic teams placed a cordon around the property and dismantled the factory after finding more than 200 plants.

(Image: Trevor Porter) In November 2023, two teenagers were arrested on suspicion of arson after fire crews were called to a blaze in the kitchen area of the ground floor.

The listing states that the three-storey Grade II listed property has an internal floor area of about 300m², which is made up of the pub and restaurant on the ground floor and accommodation upstairs with five bedrooms.

There is also potential to convert the space into two semi-detached houses, subject to planning permission, and there is an outside space for seating or a garden and parking at the rear of the pub.

Anyone hoping to view the former pub is asked to wear “sensible footwear” because of the “condition of the property” and children are advised not to enter the building.
