Police have issued an update after arresting a teenager in connection with a large fire at a former Swindon nightclub.

An 18-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of arson following a blaze breaking out at the old Lava Lounge building on Fleet Street.

Emergency services rushed to the incident at around 4am on Thursday, November 7, with around 50 firefighters on scene to tackle the blaze.

Crews from across Wiltshire fought the fire for several hours, during which the area remained closed off to the public.

It was reported that around half of the former club was destroyed in the fire.

Now Wiltshire Police has confirmed the man they arrested has been released on bail while its investigation continues.

No further arrests have been made.

A spokesperson for the force said: “The 18-year-old man who was arrested in relation to this incident has been released on conditional bail pending further enquiries.”

Officers are urging any witnesses to come forward.

In a previous statement, a police spokesperson added: “We would like to speak anyone who was in the area at around 6pm on Wednesday and saw anyone acting suspiciously.

“If you have information or CCTV footage that can assist our ongoing investigation, please call 101 quoting log number 26 of today's date.”
